Planning
Of all the steps, the planning step is crucial to insure your needs as a family are met, now and in the foreseeable future. First consider your immediate needs, are there enough bedrooms for your planned family? Are there enough bathrooms? Is there adequate space for family activities? Does the kitchen serve your needs?
Take some time with your family, and walk through your home, make notes of what could be improved upon and what it is that you love about your home. Sit down and read what you have written, what you find may surprise you. When you bought your home, certain attributes must have appealed to you, but with time, your needs change. Discuss the high and low points. Consider what could be updated or improved.
