MetroWest School of Mathematics (MWSM) in Framingham, MA is an after school educational program for children in grades K-12 serving MetroWest Boston residents. Our teaching approach is based on consistent logically interconnected Math instruction that moves steadily from easier subjects to more advanced concepts. We combine conceptual learning with practice and exercise, necessary to ensure fluent, almost automatic problem solving skills. |

Math School Founders - Brief Biography Information
Michael Sigalovsky, P. G., founder and Director of MWSM, holds B. S. and M. S. degrees in Geology and Geophysics from Moscow State University, Moscow, Russia. Mr. Sigalovsky has over 25 years of experience in academia and industry, including ten years of entrepreneurial experience as founder and Vice President of GeoTek Engineering, Inc., a geotechnical engineering consulting and drilling company located in Framingham, Massachusetts.
Dr. Anna Charny, co-founder, Vice Director and Curriculum Coordinator of MWSM, received her M. S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She has extensive industry experience in the field of Telecommunication Networks. Dr. Charny is currently employed at Cisco Systems in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, where she is responsible for research and development of algorithms and protocols for high-speed communications networks. Dr. Charny holds an extensive number of patents in this area and has authored a number of journal and conference publications. She has extensive experience in private tutoring and has taught at an after-school math program for middle-school children in Russian School of Mathematics, Newton, MA.
Prof. Mikhail A. Shubin supervises the MWMS's Math curriculum development. Prof. Shubin is currently a Matthews Distinguished University Professor at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. Prof. Shubin received his B. S., M. S. and Ph.D. degrees from Moscow State University, as well as a Doctorate of Science in Physics and Mathematics from the St. Petersburg branch of the Steklov Mathematical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Prof. Shubin worked previously at Moscow State University, Moscow Institute of New Technologies and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is also an elected member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences and a co-founder of the Independent University of Moscow. Prof. Shubin has published eleven books and more than 150 research papers in connection with his work in mathematics. Prof. Shubin also has co-edited or co-authored eleven other books, including seven volumes of the Springer Encyclopedia of Mathematical Sciences. Prof. Shubin is a member of the editorial boards of three international journals and the World Scientific Monograph Series in Mathematics. His experience includes teaching mathematics at the Advanced Math and Science High School in Moscow (School No. 2), supervising the evening mathematical school at Moscow State University, teaching at the Correspondence Mathematical School in Moscow, and teaching at various summer schools for high school students in Russia. In conjunction with Prof. Shubin's teaching experience, he has published several papers and two textbooks specifically for high school students.
