The Boston Conservatory
Central to our students' experience at The Boston Conservatory is their immersion in a truly multi-disciplinary environment. Some fine schools have excellent music or theater or dance programs. We have all three. And we structure the intensive work that our students do in ways that maximize the benefits of multi-disciplinary collaborations.
The Boston Conservatory trains exceptional young performing artists for careers that enrich and transform the human experience. Known for its multi-disciplinary environment, the Conservatory offers fully accredited graduate and undergraduate programs in music, dance and theater, and presents more than 200 performances each year by students, faculty and guest artists. The intimacy of our class settings provides a student-centered atmosphere that is uniquely intensive and supportive.
Mission:
The mission of The Boston Conservatory is to educate exceptional performing artists for careers that enrich and transform the human experience by using the skills, creativity, and courage nourished in our vibrant, multidisciplinary community of musicians, dancers and actors.
Values:
We promote individuality within our diverse community. We provide a “safe haven” from the outside world in which our students can explore their artistic and human potential.
We value excellence, curiosity, and innovation. We believe there is more to art than virtuosity, and that exposure to others' excellence, curiosity, and innovation enriches those qualities in our students.
We deliver professional readiness through practical training rooted in our multidisciplinary environment.
We believe artists are citizens with special obligations to their communities and to the arts themselves.
Music
Stylistic versatility is a distinct advantage for the aspiring musician. The Boston Conservatory's programs in music provide students with technical skills and performance experiences—in a variety of musical styles and settings — necessary to prepare you for a multitude of future paths as a professional musician.
Dance
The Boston Conservatory was the first college in the nation to have an integrated department of ballet and modern dance. Today, we continue to expand the diversity of our dance training with classes in hip-hop, tap, musical theater and cultural dance styles.
Theater
The professional actor needs to be multi-talented with keen interpretive skills and strong musical and dance abilities. Known across the country as one of the top musical theater training grounds, the theater program at The Boston Conservatory delivers programming designed to give aspiring artists an important edge in their careers.
Albert Alphin Library
The Boston Conservatory Albert Alphin Library houses a specialized collection of books, scores, journals, sound recordings and electronic databases supportive of the curricula at the Conservatory. The collection focuses on the areas of music performance, music history and literature, music education, opera, musical theater, world drama, dance history, dance notation and dance choreography. Additionally, there is a representative core collection of college level books in the liberal arts.
Since its founding in 1867, The Boston Conservatory has shared its talent and creativity with the city of Boston, the region, and the nation, and continues to grow today as a vibrant community of artists and educators. Armed with new energy and new ambitions, the Conservatory is in the midst of a revitalization from top to bottom, setting the stage for new achievements for the institution and our students.
