Naturopathic Medicine is a special area of medical practice that recognizes the body's innate ability to repair and heal itself. Naturopathy uses natural medicines and therapies to encourage, strengthen, and augment this ability. Naturopaths understand that, at times, surgery or other non-natural intervention may be necessary for their patients. They are trained to recognize when referral to another health care provider is appropriate. Naturopathic medicine can complement and increase the effectiveness of conventional medicine. Therefore naturopaths serve as primary physicians in some cases, and as complementary practitioners working in cooperation with the patient's primary M.D. in others.
We see men, women, children and infants. We do well baby visits, and treat most medical conditions, as well as offer individualized protocols to improve health and strengthen the immune system against infectious diseases such as flu and viruses.

Our Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine - Dr. Ertha
After completing 4 years of study at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Ertha continued her studies at the fully accredited Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, earning the Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine, which is reciprocal with the U.S. Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine. While in Canada, she also completed a 3-year postgraduate program in Osteopathic Manipulation, the Diplomate in Osteopathy, Manipulative Theory, and Practice, Canada.
Prior to attending medical school, she earned an Associate of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology degree from the University of Maine, Orono, a Bachelor of Arts in Biology at Connecticut College, and a Master of Science in Health Science at Northeastern University, Boston. While a graduate teaching fellow at Northeastern University, she was a lab instructor in biology, genetics, and human development/embryology.
She served 8 years as Occupational Health Specialist for the State of Maine Bureau of Labor Standards, 2 years as Research Associate, Harvard Medical School Dept. of Pathology, and 2 years as Chief Technologist, Tufts University Medical School Depts. of Gastroenterology and Pediatric Endocrinology.
Dr. Ertha has a special interest in bioelectrical conduction throughout the body and, particularly, drugless pain management. She is board certified by the North American Board of Naturopathic Examiners.
