Monica Ryan is the Director of Strawberry Family Childcare. A former lawyer in her native Venezuela, she is licensed by the MA Dept. of Early Education and Care (ECC) as a Lead Teacher. Her studies in Early Childhood Education are ongoing at the Urban College in Boston, MA. She is certified in pediatric CPR and First Aid.
Our Philosophy
The first three years in the life of a child are the foundation for the years that follow. Research tells us that more brain development occurs during these formative years than in any other phase of life. So for this reason alone, each day in a child's life is an opportunity to cultivate and share in new experiences. A child's environment should stimulate this growth in a secure and loving manner. That is what Strawberry Family Childcare stands for. It is an honor and tremendous responsibility to share in a child's growth day by day. We understand the critical role we play when you trust your child to us. Children learn in different ways and at different paces. They learn best through play, exploration and language. Bilingual Learning
Why is it important to learn a second language as a child?
Our society is influenced by a rich diversity of cultures. By giving your child the gift of learning a second language, you are giving them the keys of understanding and appreciation for the differences in all cultures. Spanish is the fourth most commonly spoken language in the world and is an official language on four continents.
The ability of a child to pick up a second language easier than an adult is subject to much debate and studies. The focus should not be so much on whether it is easier at a given age but that, as a child, the distractions of the world may not be as great and the early years are a great opportunity for immersion.
Our program is bilingual (English/Spanish) and children are exposed to spontaneous conversation, words and phrases that are repeated during the day. Songs, stories and words in print are all incorporated into the bilingual program.
